SUMMARY
New Poetry (2023) is a commissioned installation for the Whitney Museum of American Art composed of ceramic pots, shea butter, resin, books, living plants, fluorescent light tubes, shelving, and CRT monitors installed half within the Frenchette café and half outside of the museum entrance on the ground floor.
Alongside working on individual components which have been damaged (including damaged shea butter and ceramic elements in particular), and in consultation with Rashid Johnson's studio, I am currently writing an Identity Report and Maintenance Manual for it to help the Whitney gather together and synthesize disparate guidance related to its long-term care, as the necessity of replicating so many elements of the work may mean it will come before the Replication Committee in 2025.
